Tangier 3 day desert tour

Overview:

A 3-day desert tour from Tangier ending in Errachidia is a fantastic, highly efficient route to experience the Sahara. Ending in Errachidia allows you to bypass the long, exhausting drive back north or west and instead catch a convenient domestic flight out of Moulay Ali Cherif Airport (ERH) to Casablanca or Marrakech.

Highlights:

Your private driver picks you up early from your Tangier hotel, port, or airport. You will drive through the scenic Rif Mountains.

Take a short stop in the famous blue city of Chefchaouen for lunch and a stroll through its vibrant, photogenic medina streets. Afternoon: Continue south toward the imperial city of Fes (approx. 3.5 to 4 hours driving from Chefchaouen).

Arrive in Fes. Check into a traditional riad in the heart of the ancient medina and enjoy a local Moroccan dinner.

Fes to the Merzouga Sahara Desert

Morning: Depart Fes early. Pass through Ifrane, known as the "Switzerland of Morocco," and stop in the cedar forests of Azrou to feed the wild Barbary macaque monkeys. Cross the Middle Atlas Mountains and enjoy a lunch stop in the apple capital of Midelt.

Descend into the dramatic Ziz Valley, capturing panoramic views of Morocco's largest palm groves. Pass through Erfoud and arrive at the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi (Merzouga) by late afternoon.

Swap your vehicle for a camel caravan to trek deep into the sand dunes as the sun sets. Arrive at a luxury or traditional Berber desert camp for a welcome glass of mint tea, a traditional dinner, and live drumming music around a campfire under a vast, starry sky.

Merzouga Desert Explorations to Errachidia: Wake up early to catch a breathtaking Sahara sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, ride your camels (or take a 4x4) back to Merzouga village.

Midday: Visit the traditional market town of Rissani (especially lively on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays) and tour a prehistoric fossil workshop in Erfoud.

Drive north along the Ziz River basin toward Errachidia (approx. a 2-hour drive from Merzouga). Your driver will drop you off at your Errachidia hotel or directly at Moulay Ali Cherif Airport for your departing flight.

Day 1: Tangier – Fes.

We will pick up you from your hotel or Airport or Port in Tangier in the morning up to your timing. We will driver around 4 hours to reach Fes.

Then you will meet your local guide for a city tour, you will visit a places below up to your time, if you start the trip from Tangier early then will be enough time if you start late then you will visit only few. But in general below what to visit in Fes.

Must-See Attractions:

1. Fes el-Bali: The oldest Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and a maze of narrow alleys.
2. Al-Attarine Madrasa: A stunning example of Marinid architecture, and a hidden gem.
3. Bou Inania Madrasa: A beautiful madrasa, with intricate woodwork and stunning tile work.
4. Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque: One of the oldest universities in the world, and a center of Islamic learning.
5. Chouara Tannery: Chouara Tannery in Fes is the largest and oldest (11th century) leather tannery in the city, located in the heart of the Fes el Bali medina.

Overnight in a traditional riad, with breakfast included.

Day 2: Fes – Merzouga Desert.

After breakfast at the riad our tour of 3 days from Tangier to Errachidia via Merzouga Desert will continue by driving to Merzouga desert. passing through Ifrane to arrive to the cedar forests of Azrou where the wild monkeys are located. It will be good opportunity to take photos of wilderness in Morocco. Lunch in a small Berber village of Zaida.

We continue the way through the Atlas Mountains enjoying the landscapes of Medilt to arrive to the small town of Rich, Erfoud in which we’ll feel the beginning of the Saharan oasis of Tafilalet.

Then continue to Merzouga, after relaxing few min.. you’ll ride the camels about one hour to spend the night in desert. Sunset in the way to the camp. Dinner then Berber music.

Overnight in private Berber nomad tents with private bathroom.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert – Errachidia.

The morning you will walk up to the dunes to watch the sunrise.

After a warm shower will be breakfast time.

Then back by camels or by Jeep to the start point, change the camels to a car and then to Errachidia to your accommodation or Airport. The trip will finish around midday.
