Desert tours from Tangier: what to know

Our private tours from Tangier take you to the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga, the most beautiful part of the Moroccan Sahara. You travel only with your family or friends, with a local Berber driver-guide in an air-conditioned vehicle, and we pick you up at your hotel or riad. Expect a sunset camel ride, a night in a desert camp with a private bathroom, and sunrise over the dunes.

How far is Merzouga from Tangier?

About 850 km: too far for one day, so the trip is split over 2 or 3 days. That is why we recommend at least 3 days, so you can travel without rushing and enjoy the stops.

What will you see on the way?

Highlights include Chefchaouen, the blue city of the Rif mountains, the old medina of Fes and the Middle Atlas.

Which tour should I choose?

With 3 days you see the desert and the main sights on the way. With 4 or 5 days the pace is relaxed and you get a full day in Merzouga for the 4×4 trip, the nomads and Gnawa music. Every tour can be adapted to your dates.

When is the best time to go?

March to May and September to November have the best temperatures. Winter days are sunny but desert nights are cold; summer middays are very hot, so camel rides take place at sunset and sunrise.
